Virginia state Sen. A. Donald McEachin (D-Henrico County) announced on Tuesday that he is running for Congress.

The Henrico County Democrat is seeking the Democratic nomination to represent Virginia’s 4th Congressional District, which stretches from the Richmond suburbs to Hampton Roads.

”I want to go to Washington to continue to make a difference for the citizens of my district,” said McEachin in a press release that formally announced his candidacy. “I have dedicated my career to fighting for the underdog in my law practice and have an over 10 year record in the General Assembly of leading the fights that make a difference.”

“All our citizens deserve equal rights and opportunity — those most vulnerable, women, our LGBT citizens and persons of color,” said McEachin on Tuesday. “We need to protect and expand their rights.”
