Donald McEachin wins Democratic nomination in 4th congressional district
Backed by Virginia’s Democratic Party establishment, state Sen. Donald McEachin of Henrico County easily won a primary Tuesday for nomination in the 4th Congressional District, according to unofficial results. He defeated Chesapeake City Councilwoman Ella Ward.
McEachin thanked supporters at a victory party at his law firm in Richmond after attending a vigil for victims of the Orlando, Fla., mass shooting.
“This is why we run for office,” he said. “It’s about who we are as Americans. There is so much hate being preached … the hate that Donald Trump is preaching whether it’s towards Muslims, whether it’s toward LGBT people, whether it’s towards Mexicans or people of other national origins – it’s not American. It’s not who we are.”
